Residential Repairs
Your home plumber in Clovelly
Dripping taps, blocked drains, burst pipes, hot water failures. The everyday problems that need fixing today, not next week. Adam, Rebecca and the team know Clovelly homes inside out. Clovelly plumbing has two big variables: steep blocks and tight street access. Gravity-fed drainage on sloping land is constantly pressured, original clay pipes in interwar bungalows are due for relining, and coastal humidity is corroding everything metal.

Clovelly's terrain drops steeply from Clovelly Road down toward the beach and Gordons Bay. On steep blocks, stormwater concentrates quickly during rain and overwhelms drainage that was sized for lighter flows. The sewer lines on sloping properties also experience more ground movement stress on joints, which lets tree roots in faster than on flat ground. Many of Clovelly's interwar bungalows still have original clay drainage that's been under this pressure for 70-80 years. We see a higher rate of joint failures and root intrusion in Clovelly than in flatter suburbs.
Hot water systems on the ocean-facing side of Clovelly properties get hammered by salt air and coastal humidity. The sacrificial anode corrodes faster, external components deteriorate, and exposed copper connections develop pinhole leaks earlier than they would on the sheltered side. Practical options include relocating the system to a sheltered position (garage wall, internal laundry), switching to a continuous-flow unit that's more compact and easier to protect, or at minimum mounting the unit under cover and having the anode checked every 3 years instead of the usual 5.
It could be a leak, but on Clovelly's steep coastal blocks it could also be rising damp from groundwater or stormwater seeping through retaining walls. We differentiate between the two using moisture meters, thermal imaging, and pressure testing on the water supply lines. If it's a pipe leak, we locate and repair it. If it's groundwater or stormwater ingress, that's a waterproofing and drainage conversation rather than a plumbing one, and we can advise on what's needed.
Yes, provided there's gas to the property or a new connection can be arranged. Many of Clovelly's interwar and post-war bungalows were built with gas for cooking and hot water, so adding appliances to an existing gas supply is usually straightforward. We check the meter capacity, run the gas line to the new appliance location, install, pressure-test, and provide the compliance certificate. For homes without an existing gas connection, we coordinate with the gas distributor for a new meter and supply line.
Yes. Standard chrome-plated brass taps corrode quickly in Clovelly's coastal environment. For outdoor taps, we recommend marine-grade or stainless-steel options that resist salt corrosion far better. The replacement is a quick job - usually under an hour per tap. If you're also noticing corrosion on hose fittings and garden tap connectors, upgrading those at the same time is worthwhile.
Almost certainly. Excavation on a steep Clovelly block often means heavy machinery on a slope, temporary shoring, retaining wall removal and reinstatement, and significant cost beyond the plumbing itself. Relining avoids all of that. The work is done from small access pits, the slope doesn't affect the process, and the garden, retaining walls, and paths stay completely undisturbed. For steep coastal blocks where the alternative is a major earthworks exercise, relining is usually the clear winner on both cost and disruption.
From our Coogee office on Berwick Street, Clovelly is about 5 minutes by van via Clovelly Road. It's one of the closest suburbs to our base. During business hours, we're typically on site within 30 minutes of your call. We know Clovelly's narrow streets well, including which ones have parking restrictions, so there's no time wasted figuring out access.
Yes. Steep common driveways in Clovelly strata blocks often have stormwater drainage that's been overwhelmed by years of runoff. The original drainage pits and grated channels may be undersized, silted up, or damaged. We inspect the common drainage, clear and assess the existing infrastructure, and provide a strata-format quote for any upgrades needed. Common solutions include upgrading pit capacity, adding additional surface drainage, and clearing or relining the stormwater line itself if it's blocked or damaged.
The mains water from Sydney Water is consistent regardless of how close you are to the beach. What varies is the condition of your internal pipework, and homes near the coast can see faster corrosion on copper and galvanised pipes from salt air. A whole-home Puretec filter cleans the incoming mains, removing sediment and chlorine taste at every tap, but it sits upstream of your own pipes, so it can't catch what they shed. If dirty water is coming from corroded internal pipework, the best fix could be an under sink filter at the tap that matters. We'll work out which one you're dealing with during a free on-site quote.
Tree roots are the number one cause of blocked drains in the Eastern Suburbs. We clear the roots with high-pressure jetting, then use CCTV to check if the pipe is damaged. If it is, we can reline it without digging up your yard.
Every 5 years. A 2025 Suncorp study of more than 22,000 claims found burst flexi hoses cause around 1 in 10 household water damage claims, with the average repair bill over $27,500. Check the date stamp on yours.
The plumbing problems we see most often in Clovelly are: gravity-fed drainage struggling on steep coastal blocks; original clay pipes in interwar bungalows due for relining; coastal humidity accelerating corrosion on copper and brass fittings; limited street access for larger plumbing vehicles; stormwater runoff overwhelming drains from steep terrain.
